In a Pre-State of the Nation Address (SONA) briefing via PTV on July 17, DOST Secretary Renato Solidum said that the agency plans to facilitate connections between investors and capitalists with the University of the Philippines (UP).

"Kaya ang ating ginagawa ngayon at meron tayong gagawin naili-link natin yung ating mga technology producer, tulad nga sa UP Manila, sa mga investors and capitalists para mas lalong ma-produce at magamit pa (That's why we are linking our technology producers, like UP Manila, with investors and capitalists to produce and use more)," Solidum said.

Solidum explained that this initiative is in response to requests from local government units (LGUs) for the RxBox in their communities.

The RxBox was prototyped as a project by UP and funded by the DOST.

The RxBox multi-component program integrates biomedical devices, an electronic medical record system, and specialized training to enhance maternal and child healthcare and identification.

Key medical sensors included in RxBox are a blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, electrocardiogram (ECG), fetal health monitor, maternal tocometer, and temperature sensor.

Solidum emphasized that since the RxBox has proven effective, and there are companies willing and interested in mass-producing it, all they need is approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
