Akari and Cignal dismantled their respective rivals Thursday night, July 18, to snare their first wins in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The Chargers bucked a third-set hiccup and edged the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25-18, 27-25, 22-25, 25-14, while the HD Spikers whipped last conference’s finalists Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 25-18, 25-21, 25-16.
Ivy Lacsina starred for Akari by unloading all her 20 points from attacks, while import Oluoma Okaro also pumped in 16 points in a match that lasted a little over two hours.
Both teams struggled with their plays with the Chargers giving up 36 points on errors and Capital1 fumbling with 34, but Akari found ways to clinch the victory with their more aggressive offense.
Marina Tushova sizzled with 20 points for the Solar Spikers, but could not get help from her teammates as none scored more than seven points.
Later in the nightcap, Cignal took advantage of the absence of Choco Mucho top scorer Sisi Rondina and Chery Nunag due to national team duties as Maria Jose Perez took charge by erupting for 22 points on 19 kills and two aces.
Ces Molina and Toni Rose Basas also lent a helping hand with combined eight points for the HD Spikers, who outplayed the Flying Titans on all departments particularly in kills (42-36) and blocks (9-4).
New recruit Judith Abil also debuted for the HD Spikers as a libero and took charge of the floor defense by finishing with 15 digs and eight receptions.
Zoi Faki scored 13 points for Choco Mucho as others were held in single figures including new recruit Dindin Manabat, who managed with eight points.
