Two weather systems are expected to bring rainy weather to most parts of the country in the next two to three days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, July 17.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said the low pressure area (LPA), located 200 kilometers east-northeast of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, is still being monitored for potential development into a tropical depression.
However, even if it does not develop into a tropical cyclone, Badrina said that the LPA will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon in the next 24 hours.
He said the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” may also bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.
PAGASA warned of flash floods or landslides that may occur during moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the habagat may bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal.
The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also cautioned the public about severe thunderstorms that could trigger flash floods or landslides.
Badrina said that rainy weather will prevail across a large part of the country until the weekend due to the LPA crossing the landmass, along with the enhancement of the habagat.
