The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) said it is conducting its own investigation, as one of its employees was among those arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for alleged involvement in kidney trafficking.

"While we confirm that the said nurse is indeed an employee of the NKTI, we would like to assure the public that the management is already conducting its own investigation on the matter," NKTI said in a statement on July 16.
It also warned the public about transactions conducted outside the hospital by certain groups, organizations, or private individuals claiming to be associated with NKTI.
"We would also like to warn the public of transactions outside of the hospital entered into by certain groups, organizations, or private individuals claiming to be from the NKTI," NKTI said.
"The NKTI, being the National Specialty Center for Renal Health and Organ Transplantation, honors only legitimate transactions regarding living organ donation and transplantation, including deceased organ donation," it added.
Furthermore, NKTI advised patients and other stakeholders to visit the institute for "legitimate" and "accurate" information on its services and activities.
