Cavite City declares state of calamity following massive fire

CAVITE - The local government unit (LGU) of Cavite City declared a state of calamity on Tuesday, July 16, following the massive fire that left over a thousand families homeless in Barangays 5 and 7 in Badjao St. in Dalahican.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed Resolution No. 2024-094 upon the recommendation of Mayor Denver Chua and the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Donations from the LGU, private individuals and firms, and other government entities poured in for the fire victims who have sought temporary shelter at the Dalahican Elementary School and Sta. Cruz Elementary School.

The city government continues to accept donations for the victims, including necessities such as canned goods, water, rice, medicines, toiletries, hygiene kits, and bedding.

Donors who would want to provide hot meals, meanwhile, were advised to coordinate with the LGU for proper scheduling and distribution.

On July 14, a fire broke out in Dalahican, which escalated to the third alarm before being brought under control and eventually extinguished.
