PNP-ACG: Four people arrested over abortion ads on social media


Agents of the Anti-Cybercrime Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-ACG) arrested four people for advertising on social media their alleged abortion activities.

PNP-ACG director Brig. Gen. Ronnie Cariaga said the operation stemmed from cyber-patrolling wherein the unit’s personnel came across with advertisements for abortion in their office in Caloocan City and Manila. 

“Our personnel were able to arrange an appointment for abortion services as part of our operation. It was then that the four suspects were arrested,” said Cariaga, adding that the operations were conducted in Caloocan City and Manila on July 10.

The suspects, according to Cariaga, are asking P10,000 for abortion services.

He said the suspects are now facing charges of violations of Article 256 (Intentional Abortion) of the Revised Penal Code, Section 10 of RA 4224 (The Hospital Licensure Act), RA 2382 (The Medical Act of 1959), Section 30 of RA 10918 (Pharmacy Law), all in relation to Section 6 of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

Cariaga then reminded the public that abortion is illegal in the country and that those engaged in the illicit services may find themselves facing legal consequences.
