Taxi driver nabbed for driving away with passenger's belongings in Makati


A taxi driver was arrested for driving away with his passenger's belongings on Malugay Street, Barangay Bel Air, Makati City on July 9, the Makati City Police said on Sunday, July 14.

The suspect was identified as "Redempto."

Based on the police report, the victim booked a taxi via a ride-hailing app from her home in Quezon City going to her workplace in Makati.

When the cab arrived, the victim placed her bag containing a Macbook Pro laptop, iPhone 12 Promax cellphone, and cash amounting to P2,000 inside and told the driver to wait for her as she proceeded to get her other belongings inside her house.

The suspect drove away from the scene taking with him the victim's belongings.

The victim immediately reported the incident to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Police Station 6.

With the help of the victim's locator app, she and the police managed to locate her phone in Barangay Bel Air, Makati City, prompting them to coordinate with the Makati City Police for a joint entrapment operation which led to the suspect's arrest.

Redempto is now detained at the Makati City Police Station and is facing theft charges.
