PAGASA: LPA forms east of Davao, may intensify into tropical depression

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a low pressure area (LPA) formed from the cloud clusters inside the country’s area of responsibility on Monday, July 15.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said that as of 3 p.m., the LPA was located 440 kilometers east of Davao City.
She added that PAGASA is closely monitoring the LPA for potential intensification into a tropical depression.
Torres said the trough or extension of the LPA is already causing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region as of Monday.
The southwest monsoon or “habagat,” enhanced by a tropical depression outside the country’s area of responsibility, is also bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan and Occidental Mindoro.
PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides in Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan due to moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Western Visayas, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
