Around 5,000 barangay tanods in Manila received P2,000 worth of cash assistance each from President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. at the San Andres Sports Complex.
The barangay tanods were named recipients during the distribution of monetary assistance at the conduct of "Kadiwa ng Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr." program, which was carried out in coordination with the city government of Manila through the office of Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan.
The mayor was joined by Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto, Fifth District Congressman Irwin Tieng, Manila Department of Social Welfare Chief Re Fugoso and city councilors in the distribution of the said cash aid to the barangay tanods.
In the mayor's short message, she led all barangay tanods in expressing gratitude to President Marcos, Jr. for always including the city of Manila whenever there is an opportunity to provide benefits.
She said each barangay tanods received P2,000 cash.
Lacuna-Pangan shared that by the time Fugoso told her the good news that the national government is planning to give funds to the city of Manila, she immediately thought of the barangay tanods, whom she said need the aid the most.
"Ang sabi ko, bigyan naman natin ang mga tanod kasi parang kayo ang di masyardong napapansin, kaya naman talagang ginawan namin ng paraan sa tulong ng barangay bureau at MDSW. Sabi ko, pasayahin naman natin ang tanod ng buong Maynila (I said, let's give assistance to the barangay tanods because they seem to be the ones who don't receive much attention, that's why we really made a way with the help of the barangay bureau and MDSW, let's make the tanods of Manila happy)," the mayor said.
Before the distribution of the funds, the mayor also expressed her profound gratitude to the barangay tanods.
"Salamat sa mga taong araw-araw natulong sa barangay (Thanks to the people who helped the barangay every day)," she said.
Nieto and Tieng also supported the mayor's pronouncements as they also praised President Marcos Jr. for the help to the city and the barangay tanods for their dedication to service.
According to Nieto, Manila is grateful to President Marcos, Jr. for always including Manila in its projects.
Tieng also vowed to do everything within his means to help the city government get whatever possible aid it can from the national government.
