Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Ray Reyes has thumbed down the "toxic politics" that he associated with Vice President Sara Duterte's "bad joke" regarding President Marcos' upcoming third State of the Nation Address (SONA).
"The Vice President’s joke trivializes the serious matter of national security. As a nation striving for unity and progress, we cannot afford to indulge in toxic politics that undermine the trust and cooperation necessary for effective governance," Reyes said in a statement in Sunday, July 14.
Vice President Duterte announced last week that she would be skipping the SONA this coming July 22 at Batasan Pambansa Complex, home of the House of Representatives.
She joked that she won't attend because she's the "designated survivor" of the SONA. This suggests that something bad could happen to the event's attendees, which include President Marcos and other high-ranking officials.
"We express great concern over the recent statements made by Vice President Sara Duterte regarding her self-appointment as the 'designated survivor' for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s upcoming [SONA]," Reyes said.

"Such comments are not only in poor taste but also reflect a dangerous and outdated approach to politics that we must leave behind," added the pro-health solon.
Reyes said that this brand of toxic politics has no place in President Marcos' Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines).
"In Bagong Pilipinas, we envision a country free from the shadows of toxic politics. We are committed to fostering a political environment where respect, integrity, and constructive dialogue prevail. The progress of our nation depends on our ability to work together, prioritize the common good, and reject divisive and harmful rhetoric," he said.
"It is high time we move beyond the politics of fear and division and work towards a united, prosperous, and resilient Philippines," Reyes added.
