Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara on Sunday, July 14 said he will still ask Vice President Sara Duterte for any advice on how to manage the problems hounding the Department of Education (DepEd).
The incoming DepEd secretary said he expects a meeting with the former DepEd chief before the turnover rites on July 18. Angara is set to take his oath as the new DepEd Secretary.
“Ang turnover namin sa July 18 ng umaga. Yan ang paalam sa amin ng Office ni Vice President and outgoing Education Secretary, Ma'am Sara Duterte (The turnover ceremony is on July 18, morning. That’s what the Office of the Vice President and outgoing Education secretary, Ma’am Sara Duterte told us),” Angara said in an interview on Radio DZBB.
“Yung pag-assume siguro sa next, sa sunod na araw. At kailangan natin mag-oath din (We have to assume the post the next day. And we also need to take oath),” he said.
“Merong meeting tapos may konting pag-uusap. At kung may chance, hinihingi rin ako ng advice ng ating Vice President dito sa kanyang karanasan sa nakaraang dalawang taon niya bilang pinuno o kalihim ng kagawaran ng education (We will have the meeting then some dialogues. If there is a chance, I will also ask the VP for advise about her experience in the last two days as chief or secretary of education),” the lawmaker added.
According to Angara, he has already met with the agency’s undersecretaries and assistant secretaries to know all the items pending and their expectations on the upcoming opening of classes.
“At alam natin pag umpisa ng school year, usually may mga issues na lumalabas. So ano yung mga in-expect natin? Yan ang mga tanong natin at ano yung mga possible issues na lumabas in the future (We all know that every start of the school eyar, there are issues that crop up. So what do we expect? That’s what we will ask and what are the possible issues that can come up in the future),” he said.
