300 cancer, kidney patients receive cash aid from Manila LGU

Around 300 cancer patients and those undergoing dialysis were given financial assistance by the Manila local government.
The city government announced on Sunday, July 14, that the assistance was personally handed over by Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan during the "People's Day" program at the Bulwagang Villegas in Manila City Hall.
The "People's Day" is a program of the mayor to help patients with cancer and kidney diseases, which she said are both very costly to treat.
Apart from the financial aid, the mayor, who is also a doctor, spent time with the beneficiaries to personally know their condition and assure them of the city government's support to alleviate their hospital bills.
The beneficiaries were recommended by their respective barangays, the city government said.
"Natutuwa ako kasi lahat ng pasyente natutulungan niya. Lahat ng lumabas nakangiti, lalo na ako nakangiti. May pambili na ako ng gamot (I am happy because she helps all the patients. Everyone came out of the venue smiling, especially me. Now I have money to buy medicine)," one of the patients said.
Lacuna-Pangan also visited the bedridden elderly to personally give the financial assistance, spend time with them, and talk to them.
She is usually accompanied by Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin Yul Servo Nieto after their weekly "Kalinga sa Maynila" program in the barangays.
The mayor also takes time to deliver the cash incentives to centenarians by directly visiting them in their homes.
