3 suspects in shooting of Taguig cop nabbed for illegal possession of firearms, explosives

Three people, including a Grade 12 student, who are suspects in the shooting of a Taguig police officer, were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and explosives on July 10. 

According to the Taguig Police, the three were nabbed on Lopez Jaena Street in Barangay Rizal, Taguig.

The suspects were identified as alias Rolly, 27, a “lechonero”; alias Raymark, also a “lechonero”; and alias Batista, 17, a Grade 12 student, all from Barangay Rizal, Taguig. 

Last July 10, a citizen called the Taguig Police Precinct 2 and reported the presence of a group on Lopez Jaena Street with firearms and suspected grenade. 

Taguig Police responded and upon arrival in the area, they saw the suspects in possession of two .38-caliber revolvers with nine pieces of live ammunition and two hand grenades. 

The suspects are under the custody of the Taguig Police and charges will be filed against them.

According to the police, the three were allegedly involved in the shooting of a Taguig cop who was performing his duties. 

On June 23, Patrolman Austine John Austria was shot on Lopez Jaena Street in Barangay Rizal. Before this, Police Chief Master Sergeant Bobby Asuncion tried to apprehend two suspicious motorcycle-riding men. 

One of the suspects fired at him and fled. He sought assistance from Austria and another police officer. 

Austria boarded Asuncion’s motorcycle and went to Lopez Jaena Street. He saw the motorcycle driven by the suspects. 

While he was inspecting the motorcycle, another motorcycle with two men arrived. Austria tried to apprehend the suspects but one of them shot him, hitting him in the thigh, leg and feet.

 Austria was rushed to the Ospital ng Makati for treatment. 

On July 3, the Taguig Police filed frustrated murder and attempted murder charges against six suspects with the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office.
