The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced Friday, July 12, that it arrested a woman who is allegedly a co-accused of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy over a string of cases.
In a press conference at Camp Crame, the PNP presented Pauleen Chavez Canada, one of the five co-accused of the embattled televangelist for alleged human trafficking and child abuse charges supposedly related to the KOJC's operations, according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benhur Abalos.
Canada has a bounty of P1 million for her arrest.
She was apprehended in a subdivision in Cabantian, Davao City around 1 p.m. on July 11.
Abalos said that the Davao City Police Regional Office (PRO-11) received an anonymous call on July 9 informing them about the whereabouts of Canada.
“An anonymous caller called the hotline of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division in Region 11 to report to the police that s/he saw a woman who looked like the person in the wanted poster released by the PNP with a P1 million reward,” Abalos said.
At the time, Abalos said the PNP was also carrying out an intense surveillance operation. The information eventually led to the arrest of Canada a few days later.
Canada, according to PNP chief Police Gen. Rommel Marbil, used to be a finance officer of the KOJC.
The Davao City Police said that the suspect has a standing arrest warrant issued by the Pasig City Regional Court Branch 159 on April 11 on human trafficking charges with no bail recommended.
The PNP is still hunting down four other co-accused of Quiboloy, who have a P1-million bounty each for their arrest.
Meanwhile, Quiboloy, himself, has a P10-million bounty.
“It really helped noong nagbigay tayo ng reward kasi maraming nagsumbong. Mahirap hanapin ang taong nagtatago. They know what to do, they know what to expect kapag nandyan ang mga pulis (It really helped when we gave a reward because a lot of people have been giving reports. It’s difficult to find a person who is hiding. They know what to do, they know what to expect if the police are there),” Marbil said.
