'Habagat' to bring heavy rains to parts of the country this weekend, PAGASA warns
The southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” is expected to bring rains to Palawan and parts of Visayas and Mindanao this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, July 12.
In its 11 a.m. weather advisory issued on Friday, PAGASA said heavy to intense rains are expected over the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Soccsksargen, and Lanao del Norte in the next few hours.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Davao Region.
This weather scenario is expected to continue on Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14.
On Saturday, moderate to heavy rains are expected in Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Lanao del Norte, Soccsksargen, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region.
On Sunday, the habagat may cause moderate to heavy rains over Palawan, Western Visayas, Misamis Occidental, and Zamboanga Peninsula.
“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.
The public and disaster risk reduction management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to prevent loss of life or damage to property.
