BSP urges public vigilance against AI-generated scams impersonating Remolona
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has urged the public to be more vigilant against scams involving the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create or manipulate fake videos and audio.
In a statement on Friday, July 12, the BSP said that these AI-manipulated contents are being used to spread false information about organizations, officials, and individuals, including the central bank and its personnel.
In particular, the central bank clarified that BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. does not endorse the alleged cryptocurrency project "Tesler Code" or any other cryptocurrency investment.

The central bank emphasized that misrepresenting the BSP or any of its officers or units is punishable under the law.
To protect themselves from such scams and similar schemes, the BSP has urged the public to remain vigilant and refrain from providing personal information to unverified or suspicious entities.
Furthermore, the public is encouraged to verify the authenticity of messages from supposed BSP officers or representatives and to report any suspicious activities.
The BSP's warning comes at a time when the misuse of AI technology to create deceptive content is on the rise, posing significant challenges for authorities in combating fraudulent activities.
