The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said two meteor showers will be up for a stunning display in the country’s skies from July to August.
PAGASA said the Southern δ-Aquariid meteor shower will dazzle observers from July 12 to Aug. 23, with its peak anticipated on July 30.
Originating from the constellation Aquarius, PAGASA said this annual meteor shower will be visible daily from 8:19 p.m. until approximately 5:13 a.m. the following day.
It added that spectators can anticipate up to 25 meteors per hour at its peak, with minimal moonlight interference during the new moon phase, which enhances visibility for observers nationwide.
Piscis Austrinid meteor shower
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the Piscis Austrinid meteor shower will grace the night sky from July 15 to Aug. 10, reaching its peak on July 28.
Emerging from the constellation Piscis Austrinus, PAGASA said this shower will be observable starting around 8:48 p.m. each night until about 5:12 a.m. the following morning.
Though producing fewer meteors, approximately five per hour, its peak just before sunrise promises a captivating viewing experience for Filipino skywatchers.
PAGASA said the Southern δ-Aquariid Piscis Austrinid meteor showers are visible to the naked eye, making them accessible to observers across the Philippines even without special equipment.
To maximize the viewing experience, spectators are encouraged to select dark observation sites away from city lights and to anticipate clear and moonless skies.
