Rape suspect falls; Man shot dead in quarry site

GUMACA, Quezon â€“ Police arrested a rape suspect in a manhunt operation in Barangay Rosario, this town, on Wednesday, July 10.

Gumaca police chief Major Marnie Abellanida identified the suspect as Ronald, listed as a most wanted person on the regional level in the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon area.

Abellanida said that the suspect was arrested on a warrant issued by Judge Michael Vito of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 172, Gumaca, Quezon, dated July 3, 2024.

Total bail for the suspect was set at P180,000.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead and another was wounded in a quarry site in Sitio Papayahan, Purok 5, Barangay San Celestino, Lipa City, Batangas on Wednesday, July 10.

Police identified the fatality as Leon Naredo Arcega, a resident of Lipa City.

Investigation said the victim was manning a quarry site when two men arrived on a motorcycle.

The back rider approached the victim and shot him. He sustained bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.

A man â€“ Alexander Camilan Alcantara â€“ nearby was hit by a stray bullet and taken to the Christ the Savior Medical Center in Rosario, Batangas.

The suspects escaped toward the direction of Padre Garcia, Batangas.

Police recovered two fired caliber .45 cartridge cases and two fired bullets in the area.

Investigators are backtracking surveillance footages to identify the suspects.
