MMDA eyes transformation of Roxas Boulevard Promenade into cruelty-free park

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to transform the Roxas Boulevard Promenade into a cruelty-free park equipped with pet furniture, security fences, and ground cover.

This, after the MMDA, together with the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA), Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Pasay City Government, and the Federal Land Inc., held a groundbreaking and signing of a memorandum of understanding for the Roxas Boulevard Promenade, an offshoot of the Adopt-a-Park project in Pasay City.

Under the agreement, the PRA as the site's owner, has agreed with the MMDA to transform an area along Roxas Boulevard into a hub for urban greening and park development in Metro Manila.

Located at the Libertad Pumping Station, EDSA cor. Roxas Boulevard, the Roxas Boulevard Promenade, spans 800 meters in length and 22 meters in width, covering an approximate area of 17,495 square meters.

The park features three distinct sections: a futsal area equipped with a mini field, artificial turf, seating, bleachers, and fencing; a wellness plaza offering a jogging path, bike lane, seating, and solar-powered lighting.

MMDA chairman Don Artes said, like other Adopt-a-Park initiatives by the agency, the development of Roxas Boulevard Promenade aims to encourage an active lifestyle and enhance the well-being of Metro Manila residents through the enhancement and establishment of parks and green spaces.

“The Roxas Boulevard Promenade Project extends further than just building a park; it aims to offer a space for families to connect, encourage physical activity, leisure, and provide a place for relaxation," Artes said.

“This project marks the beginning of several initiatives that harmoniously blend urban development with green spaces, aiming to elevate the quality of life for all Metro Manila residents,” he added.

The project seeks collaboration with Metro Manila local governments, relevant agencies, private sectors, and stakeholders to rehabilitate and develop parks and open areas, promoting an active lifestyle and enhancing the well-being of Metro Manila's residents.
