The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started the plan to construct the 59.4-kilometer extension of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said he already signed the contract agreement with San Miguel Holdings Corp. (SMHC) chairman Ramon S.  for the P23.36 billion contract for the detailed engineering design (DED) works of the TPLEX extension.

Bonoan said the start of DED activities for the extension project would be carried out in 2025, with the first of the three segments of the project expected to be finished by 2028.

Segment 1 will begin at the last TPLEX exit in Rosario and end in Tubao, covering an additional 18.5 kilometers of 4-lane road, while Segment 2 will cover the 23.1 kilometers from Tubao to Naguilian, and Segment 3 will cover the 17.8 kilometers from Naguilian to San Juan, La Union.

Following the completion of the DED, the project will be approved for finance and actual execution by the National Economic and Development Authority Board.
