Cuban hard-hitter Wilma Salas returns to the country and will suit up for Petro Gazz anew in the import-laden PVL Reinforced Conference, the club team announced on social media Wednesday, July 10.

The 35-year-old Salas, who towed the Angels to their first-ever title after beating the Creamline Cool Smashers in 2019, was named as the squad's import for the upcoming conference which opens next Tuesday, July 16.

“The 2019 PVL Reinforced Conference Best Foreign Guest Player awardee who led the Petro Gazz Angels to a championship will refuel our journey this Reinforced Conference,” Petro Gazz wrote in the post. “Welcome back, Wilma Salas!”

Salas – a former winner of the former Best Foreign Guest Player award – will play under the tutelage of newly hired coach Koji Tsuzubara who was tapped by Petro Gazz last January.

The 6-foot-2 spiker will lead the three-peat bid of the Angels in the Reinforced Conference as she gets reunited with Chie Saet, Djanel Cheng and Jonah Sabete, who were her teammates five years ago.

She will also play with Remy Palma, Aiza Pontillas, Myla Pablo, MJ Phillips, and the all-Filipino Conference MVP Brooke Van Sickle.

The 2011 Pan Am Games silver medalist has been playing for different overseas clubs as of late. After playing for five years in Cuba, Salas competed for Rabita Baku in Azerbaijan in 2014.

A year later, she moved to Turkey where she suited up for two clubs before joining Petro Gazz in 2019. Salas bade farewell to the Filipino team then flew to Europe and won five titles with KPS Chemik Police in the Polish league.

After sustaining a knee injury, Salas continued her career in Greece, competing for Olympiacos S.F Piraeus.
