Celebrating 75 years of Thai-Philippine diplomatic relations

On June 14, 2024, the majestic Mayuree Ballroom of Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati hosted the grand reception celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Philippines. The event, marked by an array of cultural performances and notable speeches, was a testament to the enduring and multifaceted partnership between the two nations.

The evening was attended by distinguished guests including First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique A. Manalo, Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Maria Yulo-Loyzaga, Department of Budget and Management Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., alongside members of the House of Representatives, ambassadors, and other dignitaries.

In his speech, Ambassador Tull Traisorat of the Embassy of Royal Thai underscored the cooperation between the two nations in various sectors. He proposed a toast to the King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, and President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., highlighting the deep ties that bind the two countries.

Secretary Manalo followed with a speech echoing similar sentiments of enduring friendship and cooperation. He also proposed a toast, further cementing the bonds of camaraderie between Thailand and the Philippines.

As the evening progressed, guests were treated to a vibrant display of cultural performances, including traditional dances and a unique fashion show showcasing Thai and Filipino attire. The stage also featured demonstrations of Thai boxing and Arnis, reflecting the rich martial arts traditions of both nations.

A special highlight of the evening was the awarding of the Honorable Mention Award for the logo design contest, celebrating the creative endeavors of artists who contributed to this milestone.

In his address , the Thai Ambassador emphasized the whole-of-society approach adopted by the Royal Thai Embassy in celebrating this special occasion. He highlighted several collaborative projects and activities, including the Thailand-Philippines Street Food Festival and the symposium on "Strengthening Skills through Multilateral Cooperation", among others. These initiatives, he noted, were a testament to the dynamic and multifaceted partnership between the two nations.

Looking ahead, the Ambassador announced upcoming events such as the symposium on the "Self Sufficiency, Economy Philosophy and Sustainability", the Siam Sinfonietta symphony orchestra concert, and the Thailand-Philippines Film Festival, promising continued collaboration and cultural exchange.

As the evening drew to a close, the Ambassador invited all guests to join him in a toast, celebrating the relations between Thailand and the Philippines. The specially designed
75th anniversary logo, symbolizing the deep ties and committed partnership between the two nations, was a fitting representation of the evening's spirit filled with a sense of shared history and a hopeful vision for the future.
