The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will work with the Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) to enroll 900 disadvantaged youth under the enhanced Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).
A memorandum of agreement was signed by DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma and JFC Philippines Chief Human Resources Officer Ruth B. Angeles in Intramuros Manila on Thursday, July 4.
Laguesma said the partnership with JFC aligns with the Philippine government’s job creation agenda and the outcomes of the 2024 National Employment Summit.
He likewise underscored the importance of promoting youth employability through education and training tailored to industry needs, supported by private sector involvement.
Laguesma reported that 18,354 students benefited from temporary employment under the SPES program from January to June this year, with expectations of further increases through the strengthened collaboration with JFC.
“Through the training and internship that the company offers, beneficiaries gain hands-on experience in real-world environments, industry-specific skills, professional development, and mentorship. This practical exposure equips them with industry-specific knowledge and skills essential for today’s job market,” Laguesma said.
“When we invest in our youth, especially those in the marginalized and vulnerable sectors, we provide them with the tools and support they need to reach their full potential,” he added.
Meanwhile, Angeles affirmed strong support for SPES beneficiaries, ensuring they receive necessary assistance.
SPES offers short-term employment to disadvantaged students and youths during school breaks to supplement family income and support educational pursuits.
