Farmer drowns while relieving himself

CAMALANIUGAN, Cagayan – A farmer drowned while relieving himself in an irrigation canal in Barangay Baggao here on Saturday, June 29.

Police Capt. Jessie P. Alonzo, town chief of police, said the victim,  Melchor dela Cruz, 53, of Barangay Sapping, this town, stopped by the irrigation canal to defecate while on his way to home under the influence of liquor.

However, he lost his balance and slipped into the five-foot deep irrigation canal.

Dela Cruz drowned but he was rescued by men nearby.

He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Self-accident

Meanwhile, a 71-year-old collector died in a self-vehicular accident in Barangay Bautista, Caba, La Union.

Police identified the victim a Juan, a resident of Caba.

Investigation said the victim lost control of his motorcycle after its front wheel burst. He ended up on a roadside ditch and was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
