Negros Occidental 3rd district Rep. Jose Francisco "Kiko" Benitez has vowed to give his best should he be chosen as the next Department of Education (DepEd) secretary.
Rep. Benitez, chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development, had this to say Tuesday, July 2 as he acknowledged the public's endorsement of him for the Cabinet post.
"I thank Negros Occidental local officials, colleagues in the House, and friends and partners in the education sector for their trust and support for my appointment as DepEd secretary," he said.
"I trust in the President's judgment in choosing who will lead this extremely important agency," said Rep. Benitez, younger brother of Bacolod Mayor Albee Benitez.
"If selected, I would be honored to serve and do the best I can. But even if I am not selected, I will continue to do my part, supporting whomever the president entrusts with this tremendous task," the congressman said.
"We must all work together to fix the country's education crisis," he underscored.
Vice President Sara Duterte submitted to Malacañang her resignation as DepEd secretary last June 19.
