Police officer killed as pickup truck crashes in Butuan City

BUTUAN CITY â€“ A police officer was killed and four others, including three minors, were injured in a road accident on South Montilla Boulevard, Purok 8, Barangay JP Rizal, this city, before midnight on Friday, June 7.

The Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) identified the fatality as Police Lt. Col. Renars Salubre, assigned to the Dinagat Islands Provincial Police Office (PPO) and a resident of Purok 6, Barangay Bading, this city.

The identity of the three minors was withheld.

Police said a Yamaha STX tricycle driven by Felix, 36, a resident of this city, was accidentally bumped from behind by a Nissan Navarra driven by Viv, 43, also of this city.

The pickup truck rammed unoccupied vehicles parked on the roadside and Salubre, who was standing near his vehicle where his family was onboard.

Salubre was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The injured were taken to the Butuan City Hospital.

The damaged vehicles incurred undetermined cost of damage.

Viv is under the custody of the BCPO-Station 1 for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.
