BACOLOD CITY – A police officer was wounded in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Magticol, Toboso, Negros Occidental on Saturday, June 8.
Police Staff Sgt. Ronie Melgar, 40, assigned to the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) of the Toboso Municipal Police Station, sustained a bullet wound in the arm.

Police Major Jun Ray Batadlan, Toboso police chief, said two suspected drug pushers were arrested and 61.41 grams of suspected shabu worth P417,588 were seized in the operation.
Batadlan said the subject of the operation was Joery dela Cruz, 45, of Calatrava, Negros Occidental. Dela Cruz was accompanied by his alleged cohorts Aries Azucena, 30, and Albert Alico, 32, of Calatrava town.
Dela Cruz and Azucena were arrested while Alico allegedly shot Melgar before escaping from the police. Melgar is recuperating in a hospital here.
Police are hunting down Alico, a newly identified drug individual.
Recovered during the operation were the P1,000 marked money, P22,650, 17 bullets, two improvised tooters, two improvised scoopers, an improvised sealer, a pair of scissors, and two motorcycles.
Confiscated from Dela Cruz was a .45 caliber pistol with two magazines and 12 bullets.
Batadlan said that Dela Cruz was a high-value individual and tagged as No.1 drug personality in Toboso and Azucena was a street-level individual and tagged as Top 5 drug personality in the town.
Dela Cruz and Azucena were arrested for drug offenses but were released from jail through plea bargaining.
He said the three suspects were included in their drug list for their illegal drug transactions in Toboso.
Dela Cruz and Azucena face drug charges with the former facing an additional case for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
