The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported an "extreme danger" heat index level in Maasin, Southern Leyte, on Saturday, June 8.

The heat index in Maasin City was 53 degrees Celsius (°C) on Saturday, slightly lower than the highest heat index recorded this year of 55°C on May 26 and 28 in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

PAGASA said a heat index above 52°C indicates “extreme danger” as “heat stroke is imminent.”
Meanwhile, the state weather bureau recorded a heat index of 46°C in Virac (Synop), Catanduanes, followed by 44°C in Aparri, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Casiguran, Aurora; Masbate City, Masbate; and Mambusao, Capiz.

Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Pasay City, Metro Manila; ISU Echague, Isabela; Juban, Sorsogon; Catbalogan, Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; and Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte had a 43°C heat index.
PAGASA added that 42°C was felt in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Bacnotan, La Union; Alabat, Quezon; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Siquijor, Siquijor; Borongan, Eastern Samar; Davao City, Davao Del Sur; Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte; and Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte.
On June 8, 21 areas have heat indeces in the “danger” category.
