Navotas LGU collects 7,500 kilos of trash in coastal clean-up drive


The local government of Navotas City collected 500 sacks or 7,500 kilos of garbage during a coastal clean-up activity in Barangay Tangos on Saturday, June 8.

The event, which was part of the observance of Environment Month Coastal Clean-Up 2024, was led by Navotas City Vice Mayor Tito Sanchez, DENR-NCR MEO Deputy Director Glen Gustilo, SDO Assistant Division Superintendent Eladio Escolano, and Tangos North Barangay Chairman Amadeo Libao.

According to the city’s public information office, 387 volunteers participated in the clean-up drive.

The volunteers were members of the Department of Public Works and Highways Malabon-Navotas District Engineering Office (DPWH-MNDEO), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Navotas City Police Station (NCPS), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Navotas.

Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Navotas, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) - Navotas Chapter, and teachers, faculty, and students from Kaunlaran High School, Navotas National High School, and San Roque Elementary School also joined the event.

The local government unit urged residents to refrain from disposing their garbage into rivers to prevent floods in the city.
