Filipino car buyers have yet another brand to choose from when it comes to electrified vehicles. That brand is Seres Auto. Distributed by QSJ Motors Phils., Inc., Seres Auto has been in operation since 1986 as a manufacturer of automotive and household appliance components and is now focused on producing new energy vehicles.

The new brand is making its debut with a three-vehicle-line-up, with retail sales set to begin by September.

The lineup will be composed of the Seres 5, Series 5 SF, and the Seres 7. All three are crossovers that can comfortably seat five or more. Two of them are range extenders (electric vehicles with a gasoline engine that acts as a generator, charging the battery). This added feature allows it to go beyond the typical electric vehicle range and ease drivers’ worries about electric range.

Seres 5

The first vehicle is the Seres 5, a mid-size five-seater crossover. It is an EV with range extender and comes with a choice of either single or dual electric motors. The Comfort variant comes with a rear-mounted electric motor and produces 266-horsepower and 354-Nm of torque. The Premium variant adds an electric motor to the front axle, making it all-wheel drive.

It produces 487-horsepower and 664-Nm. Both variants are powered by a 40-kWh ternary lithium battery that promises a range of 158 to 184 kilometers (NEDC standard). Its range extender is a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine that can boost the range up to 1,250 kilometers. Nonetheless, it can still be plugged in via AC or DC fast charging to power up the batteries.

Seres 5 SF

The next model is the Seres 5 SF (Saker Falcon). It’s a similar size to the Seres 5 but is a pure EV. It’s powered by dual motors and produces a combined 584 horsepower and 940 Nm of torque.

The 90-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery promises a range of up to 530 kilometers (WLTP standard). It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 220 km/h.

Seres 7

The Comfort is a single motor rear-wheel drive version that produces 266-horsepower and 354-Nm. The Premium is a dual motor all-wheel drive version that produces 439-horsepower and 654-Nm. It also has a 40-kWh battery allows for anywhere between 162 to 166 kilometers of range. Extending the range is a 1.5-liter turbo engine that can stretch it to 1,200 kilometers.

Built on the MF platform

All three models are built on Seres’ MF platform. Designed to be both safe, customizable, and versatile, the platform can accommodate all the requirements to build a pure EV, hybrid, or range extender vehicle. It can also be adapted to support any vehicle type, be it a sedan, SUV, or MPV and from compact to large sizes.

Seres says the platform covers over 150 safety scenarios, has more than 200 safety features, and incorporates an industry-leading 40 safety technologies.

If these models sound appealing, Seres will soon be available for viewing. An offsite experience center (test drive facility) will open on the ground floor of the Primex Tower along EDSA by the third quarter of 2024. Seres’ flagship showroom will open along Quezon Avenue by 2025.
