PSAC lauds Marcos order to ensure continuous ports operations

Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) lead convenor Sabin Aboitiz welcomed President Marcos' recent order to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Department of Agriculture) to ensure 24/7 uninterrupted shipment processes, saying this will result in substantial improvement in the country's economic growth.

Aboitiz said this following the PSAC's meeting with Marcos in Malacañan on Wednesday, June 5.

In a statement, the Aboitiz Group CEO and President said Marcos' order is a "significant step" towards modernizing the Philippines' infrastructure and logistics sectors.

"By ensuring 24/7 port operations and integrating water-related projects, we are poised to see substantial improvements in efficiency and economic growth," he said.

"The commitment to resolving road blockages and developing a comprehensive supply chain roadmap will further streamline our processes and reduce costs," he added.

The Wednesday meeting focused on crucial infrastructure and logistics issues vital to the nation's economic development, resulting in several significant agreements.

During the meeting, Marcos underscored the importance for all ports to operate continuously, with a full complement of personnel available round the clock.

"In this business, there’s no after-hours. It can – it’s ready 24/7," he said.

"So, let’s not put an extra team, let’s just keep it running. Whatever you have there in the day, let the same number of people that you have all 24 hours," he added.

This directive extends to all agencies involved in the screening and checking of imported goods, particularly food and agricultural products.

"These strategic initiatives underscore the administration's commitment to enhancing infrastructure efficiency and economic resilience," the PSAC said.

"The PSAC will continue to provide support and recommendations to facilitate these developments," it added.

Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos committed to assigning a point person to collaborate with port operators and local government units (LGUs) to resolve road blockages leading to major ports nationwide. This aims to alleviate congestion and ensure smooth transport operations.

The PSAC is a group established under the Marcos administration to help the government deliver on its commitment to transform the Philippine economy by bridging the public and private sectors. It is led by experts across six main sectoral groups: agriculture, digital infrastructure, jobs, health care, infrastructure, and tourism.
