Ana Bhianca Espenilla and Courtney Trangia shone bright in athletics as the Philippines concluded its campaign in the 13th ASEAN School Games in Danang, Vietnam on Friday, June 7.

The Masbate native Espenilla took the first gold for the Philippines after ruling the girls javelin throw with a heave of 52.07 meters and beat Thai bet Panatsaya Meesin (42.50m) and Malaysian (37.38m), who settled for silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Trangia topped the girls discus throw event after registering 37.95m and beating her eight other rivals including her compatriot Heart Duarte (35.46m), who fell at fourth place.
The Filipino boys basketball team went home with silver after bowing to Indonesia, 54-56, same as the Filipina cagers who yielded to Thailand, 69-53, in the finals.
Other silver medalists were Jamal Pandi (boys singles badminton), girls and mixed 4x400 teams (athletics), Angel Villagracia (100m girls hurdles), pencak silat’s Heizel Mae Cornel (58-55kgs tanding girls). and Zyche Mae Jizmundo (seni girls).
Meanwhile, Filipina wunderkind Jasmine Mojdeh gifted herself with two bronze medals before her birthday in 100m and 200m girls butterfly.
Albert Amaro also went home with bronze in the boys 50m Butterfly.
The Nationals completed their campaign with 2 gold, 8 silver and 20 bronze medals for sixth place in the medal tally.
Host country Vietnam amassed 44 gold, 31 silver and 17 bronze medals for the top spot in the overall standings.
