PDEA destroys P9-billlion illegal drugs in Cavite

CAVITE â€“ The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) incinerated over P9 billion worth of dangerous drugs at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. in Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, on Thursday, June 6.

Included in the destroyed illegal drugs were the 1.2 tons of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu seized during a checkpoint operation in Alitagtag, Batangas on April 15.

The stockpile of drugs had a total weight of 2.43 tons. Majority of the contraband were shabu, marijuana, and ephedrine.

The destroyed dangerous drugs were those seized from various anti-drug operations conducted by the PDEA, as well as the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and other counterpart law enforcement and military units.

The pile of contraband was no longer required as evidence in court following the prosecution of the drug cases.

Authorities destroyed the drug evidence through thermal decomposition or thermolysis. Exposed to temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius, all dangerous substances were entirely decomposed or broken down, making reconstitution impossible.
