The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, June 8, that the southwest monsoon or "habagat" continues to affect areas of Luzon and Visayas.

"As we can see in our latest satellite images, the thick clouds in the western part of our country are the continuing effects of the southwest monsoon, or the 'habagat,' affecting the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas," said PAGASA Weather Specialist Daniel James E. Villamil in a mix of English and Filipino.

"Since this morning, or even since the early dawn, we have been experiencing scattered rain showers, with occasional thunder and lightning, brought by the 'habagat' to the western parts of northern and central Luzon, as well as in the area of Palawan," he added.

In its latest public briefing, the state weather bureau explained that this will continue for the rest of the day, during which the affected areas will experience cloudy conditions with a high chance of rain.

Meanwhile, for the remaining parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, mostly cloudy conditions are expected on Saturday, with a high chance of thunderstorms from the afternoon until the evening.

"In the rest of the country, including the whole Visayas and Mindanao, we expect fair weather conditions, with hot and humid weather, except for the usual chances of late afternoon to evening rain showers or thunderstorms," Villamil said.

The weather specialist added that the "habagat" will continue in the western sections of Luzon on Sunday, with the possibility of rain and clouds in those areas.

"So, in the areas I mentioned, the western section of northern Luzon and the area of Palawan, the clouds and rains will continue until tomorrow," he said.

June 10 weather forecast

On June 10, PAGASA forecasted that the country would experience improving weather conditions.

"Therefore, the whole country, including Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, will experience generally fair weather conditions from Monday to Wednesday next week," he said.

"Nevertheless, we still expect the effects of the 'habagat,' so there is still a high chance of thunderstorm activity," he added, citing the possibility of "sudden and short rain showers in the western part of our country."
