ILOILO CITY — Around 300 policemen have been deployed to Negros Occidental province as part of the government’s response to the phreatic eruption of Mount Kanlaon earlier this week.

Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office-6, personally went to Negros Island to check on the deployment status.
Majority of the policemen were from different units of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO).
Wanky said they are deployed in different areas to aid local government units (LGUs) in mainly providing public security as well as aiding in disaster response.
With Alert Level 2 still in place and lahar or mudflow reaching certain areas, police are aiding the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices (DRRMOs) in evacuation as well as providing security in evacuation places.
Meanwhile, Wanky led the distribution of 1,000 relief packs to La Castellana town, which is under a state of calamity.
Wanky handed over the PRO-6 donation to Mayor Rhummyla Nicor Mangilimutan.
