Clearing operation sparks tension between vendors and public service team in Divisoria
Tension arose between the personnel of Manila's Department of Public Services (DPS) and Divisoria vendors during a clearing operation on Thursday afternoon, June 6.

DPS started to confiscate the vendors' goods that were placed on the sidewalk and put them together in one place.
During the operation, some vendors calmly asked the DPS team not to take their goods, while others used force to get their wares back from the personnel, which resulted in a commotion.
During the commotion, some vendors got their things back while the other items and goods were loaded onto the DPS truck.
According to DPS Officer-in-Charge Kayle Amurao, everything that is put on the sidewalk along Recto Avenue is considered an obstruction, so the DPS needs to remove it.
Amurao said the DPS was confiscating the vendors’ products because they keep on returning even though they are aware that they should not be in the area because they cause obstruction.
“Alam naman po nila since 2019 past administration pa na inadapt ng new administration ngayon, may executive order na ipinagbabawal ang any form of obstruction along Recto Avenue (They've known since 2019 that the new administration has adopted the regulation of the past administration, and now there's an executive order prohibiting any form of obstruction along Recto Avenue),” Amurao added.
