Canlaon city gov't warns on scams following Kanlaon eruption
BACOLOD CITY – The city government of Canlaon in Negros Oriental urged the public to be cautious of potential scams following an increase in the number of donation drives for victims of the Kanlaon Volcano eruption.
In a statement, the local government clarified that they are not involved with any of these personal donation drives.

The local government, together with provincial, regional, and national agencies, particularly the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), said they have sufficient resources to address the needs of affected residents.
They stressed that these collaborative efforts ensure that relief and support are adequately provided to those in need.
Assistance from government, private organizations are pouring in for the victims since the volcano erupted on Monday night, June 3.
This is the most recent volcanic activity of Kanlaon Volcano. It last erupted seven years ago in December 2017.
To avoid any misuse of the calamity situation for fraudulent activities, the local government said that donations and support for the victims can be coursed directly to the city government through the Incident Command System for proper guidance, coordination, and acknowledgement.
Mayor Jose Cardenas has again declared suspension of work in government and private offices in Canlaon City on Thursday, June 6, due to the volcanic unrest.
“This is a precautionary and proactive measure in anticipation of any untoward incident,” Cardenas said in an executive order.
