DAVAO CITY – Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Leo Tereso Magno said there is no delay in the construction of the 1.34-kilometer Bucana Bridge.

Magno denied a report that the project was delayed to 2026.
He said the project is ahead of schedule and that Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Emil Sadain informed him that it is 20 percent complete.
“As the new MinDA chair and the Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao, I want to clarify that the information is inaccurate,” Magno said, adding that the Bucana Bridge has a target construction period of 18 months.
The Bucana Bridge is part of the Davao River Bridge Project. It started in the second quarter of this year and is set to be completed by the end of 2025.
Magno said the construction of the Bucana Bridge, with 480.2 meters of total civil works based on the DPWH-11 project update, will proceed without interruption as the project is funded through a grant from China Eximbank.
DPWH-11 Director Juby Cordon, during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas press conference last week, said that the construction of the Bucana Bridge is 15.694 percent complete as of April 30, 2024.
Cordon said the Bucana Bridge, which includes the construction of a four-lane, six-span, extradosed bridge and approach roads crossing the Davao River, will complement the coastal road as an alternate route to Davao City's existing urban road network.
