ILOILO CITY – A health advisory has been issued for potential ash fall from the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island here and this province.

The Iloilo City Health Office (ICHO) and the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) issued put out these advisories.
The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-Phivolcs) maintained Alert Level 2 as of Wednesday, June 5.
Dr. Anabelle Tang, ICHO chief, said precaution is needed for those who have respiratory problems and suggested the wearing of face masks again.
Dr. Rodney Labis of IPHO also echoed the suggestion as face masks can aid in reducing ash inhalation.
In case the volcanic unrest worsens and ash fall occurs, both doctors suggested that people with respiratory problems minimize going out in public.
Iloilo City is eyeing to conduct air quality testing.
Donna Magno, chief of the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said they are looking into determining the level of sulfur dioxide in the air.
The Iloilo City DRRMO will first check with the State weather bureau the parameters that should be used.
