32K former 4Ps beneficiaries earn college diplomas, 49 top board exams — DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday, June 5, said over 32,000 former beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) have completed their tertiary education from 2016 to April 30, 2024.

DSWD Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Irene Dumlao said “a total of 32,556 former monitored children under our flagship poverty alleviation program are now diploma holders.”

“Notably, from 2018 to present, a total of 49 former 4Ps monitored children got the highest scores in various board examinations,” she added.

Dumlao also said the program produced “exemplary” students, with 82 graduating as magna cum laude, 1,135 as cum laude, and 132 receiving special recognition.

Likewise, she said 6,000 graduates passed their respective board examinations, resulting in them becoming licensed teachers, engineers, architects, and midwives.

Dumlao pointed out the 4Ps’ goal to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty by investing in the health, nutrition, and education of poor households through the provision of conditional cash transfer to qualified beneficiaries.

It was launched in 2008 and institutionalized by Republic Act No. 11310 in 2019.

“These figures are testament that 4Ps and the funds of the government are being utilized properly. They are solid indications that DSWD’s 4Ps is a valuable tool in effectively investing in human capital,” she said.

Dumlao cited a former 4Ps monitored child who placed first in the March 2024 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) at the elementary level.

Khane Cervantes of Davao Oriental is now a licensed teacher after passing the LET with a 92.40 percent score alongside two other examinees.

Dumlao said Cervantes, a magna cum laude graduate from Davao Oriental State University-Cateel, was a Tertiary Education Subsidy scholar of the Commission on Higher Education Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education or CHED-UniFAST program.

The scholarship program prioritizes 4P beneficiaries and other households included in the "Listahanan" by covering at least a portion of the cost of tertiary education, including education-related expenses.
