TACLOBAN CITY – The Army has deployed more troops to the 8th Infantry “Stormtroopers” Division to strengthen the campaign against communist rebels in Eastern Visayas.

These reinforcements were from the 2nd Howitzer Platoon, Bravo Company, 3rd Field Artillery Battery (3FAB) and Armor Artillery Regiment (AAR).
Under the operational control of the 803rd Infantry Brigade, the 2nd Howitzer Platoon will aid in confronting the Regional Guerilla Unit (RGU) and the Sentro de Gravidad of the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee (EVRPC), the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army's umbrella organization in the region.
The deployment of these troops to Northern Samar, identified as the last bastion of insurgency in the country, was part of the concentrated effort to eliminate the EVRPC.
Col. Cesar Molina, chief of staff of the 8th Infantry Division, expressed confidence in the additional troops and emphasized heir role in sustaining the progress made by government forces in fighting insurgency.
“Your role is crucial in gaining an advantage to end the insurgency and safeguarding the safety and security of the Eastern Visayas. We trust in your abilities to carry out your duties with the utmost professionalism and expertise,” Molina said.
