“Yes, present ako (I am present),” the official said when asked if she will attend the opening ceremony of the Palarong Pambansa on July 9 at the Cebu City Sports Center.
She said this in an interview during the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) Pasidungog, an awarding ceremony to recognize the OVP’s partners in implementing various programs, held in Cebu City last June 29.
Duterte recently tendered her resignation and gave President Marcos her 30-day notice until July 19.
The Vice President added that she’s currently focused on the transition of power in DepEd.
“Ang gawa natin ngayon ay ito, ang pagtutok sa transition, turn over ng Department of Education, at ang ating pagpapatuloy ng mga proyekto sa ilalim ng Pangalawang Pangulo ng Pilipinas (What we’re doing now is focusing on the transition, turnover of the Department of Education, and continuing the projects under the Office of the Vice President).”
The DepEd’s upcoming events are the National Learners Convergence, the Brigada Eskwela, the National Schools Press Conference, and the Palarong Pambansa 2024 in Cebu.
The National Learners Convergence, the largest face-to-face engagement of learners, youth leaders, and education stakeholders representing the 228 Schools Division Offices (SDO) from 17 regions of the country, will be held from July 8 to 13 in Lapu-Lapu City.
The National Schools Press Conference, which will be held from July 8 to 12 in Cebu, will gather campus journalists nationwide to compete in various fields.
The Brigada Eskwela, which is a preparation for the opening of classes, will also run in July.
Duterte also said she has no recommendation for the next DepEd chief since it is a position of trust and confidence that the President has the power to appoint.
Marcos, on the other hand, said that he needs more time to find Duterte’s replacement because “it's harder than I thought because we absolutely have to get it right.”
