The smiles and loud cheers from Filipinos brought tears to Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun's eyes at his fan meeting in Manila.

Kim Soo-hyun, the star of the hit drama “Queen of Tears,” held his “Eyes on You” Asia Tour in Manila at the Araneta Coliseum.

This was his first own fan meeting in 10 years since holding his Kim Soo-hyun Asia Tour 1st Memories in 2014 after he starred in the hit series “My Love from the Star.”

Many were looking forward to seeing him in person following the success of “Queen of Tears,” which is now the No. 1 highest rated tvN series and third among Korean series on cable in history.

As soon as he emerged on stage and sang the “Queen of Tears” original soundtrack (OST) “Love You With All My Heart” with a live band, deafening cheers and screams erupted inside the coliseum.

“Kamusta ka? Ako ay si Kim Soo-hyun. Magandang gabi (How are you? I am Kim Soo-hyun. Good evening),” he greeted the crowd.

He said when he first entered the stage, he wanted his performance to be explosive but the cheers from the audience were as powerful as well.

“I told myself that my performance should be explosive but your shouts were entering my in-ear [monitor],” he said.

He added, “I am so happy to come back after 10 years [for my own fan meeting]. Despite that 10 years have passed, I still felt nervous when I came to the stage. 2022, 2023, 2024 I was here in the Philippines. I am so happy to see you all again.”

But in just 15 minutes after the fan meeting started, Kim Soo-hyun was in tears when the “Queen of Tears” became the topic, eliciting loud cheers again from the audience.

Emcee Sam Oh asked him to say a message of thanks to the people who supported the drama and Kim Soo-hyun started choking up and cried.

“Oh my, I think we turned him into a ‘King of Tears,’” said Oh.

He wiped his tears and when he came back to his seat, he explained, “Because you are all smiling. It’s like the first time looking at the smiles and then I’m crying right now, I became very emotional. Thank you. Salamat po.”

“And because of the love and support for ‘Queen of Tears,’ I was able to have a fan meeting here in the Philippines. Thank you so much,” he added as he bowed to the audience as a sign of his deep appreciation for them.

On Netflix in the Philippines, “Queen of Tears” has been in the top 10 for 16 weeks including staying at No. 1 for six weeks since its premiere in March.

Segments

The fan meeting featured several segments centering on “Queen of Tears.”

In the “Yongduri Photo Studio,” Kim Soo-hyun had to answer questions within 100 seconds about two photos he uploaded on social media including Instagram

Yongduri is a fictional rural community where Baek Hyun-woo, his character, was born.

One photo showed Kim Soo-hyun in Germany during the filming of “Queen of Tears,” posing with one shoulder exposed. The crowd screamed when he imitated the photo and exposed his shoulder on stage. He signaled the audience to calm down. He said he exposed his shoulder in the photo because it was hot.

The next segment, ‘Exclusive! Soo Hyun’s Commentary,” showed clips from “Queen of Tears.” The first video clip showed Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun) seeing Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won) in a car, prompting Kim Soo-hyun to shout “Hae-in-ah!” at the fan meeting.

“I was feeling pain, anger, sadness and a little bit of sorrow towards her and worried about Hae-in’s health,” he said.

In the “Surprise Quiz,” the audience members had to answer questions. The winners got signed posters.

After a fan answered “snow,” “snow” fell inside the coliseum. He said he prepared this because “snow is cute.”

Kim Soo-hyun learned Filipino words in “Learning about Philippines’ segment including “omsim,” slang for “mismo” or “exactly,” and “eme lang” and “charot.”

Ten audience members were selected in a lucky draw that allowed them to play games with Kim Soo-hyun on stage.

The two teams had a group photo with Kim Soo-hyun and the winning team, Team A, received necklaces with pendants. Another draw was held wherein six more winners were chosen to receive the necklaces.

Kim Soo-hyun also had a photo time with fans on the LED screen.

“Way Home” and farewell

During the fan meeting, Kim Soo-hyun also performed “All of Me,” and “Wherever You Will Go.”

He surprised the audience by singing the yodel “Beautiful Swiss Lady,” the Korean version of “She Taught Me How To Yodel.” He first performed the yodel during his 2014 fan meeting.

“I really enjoyed today as well. Whenever I come to the Philippines, everyone here really, from the start of the show to the end of the show, is smiling. It makes me feel that I want to enjoy the show as well. I really gained a lot of strength from you guys,” he said and blew kisses to the audience.

A video was also shown with Filipino fans greeting Kim Soo-hyun and welcoming him to the country.

“I would like to sincerely express my gratitude to all of you who prepared this video for me,” he said. “Actually when I was planning for this fan meeting, I wanted to give you guys a lot of laughs and enjoyment, but it seems I was the one who laughed more and enjoyed the show more.”

He capped off the show with his rendition of “Way Home,” another OST from “Queen of Tears.” He received bouquets from the audience.
