'Queen of Tears' emerges as No. 1 TV, OTT show for third straight month; 'Lovely Runner' at No. 4

For the third consecutive month, the hit Korean drama “Queen of Tears,” starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, has been chosen as the No. 1 favorite TV and OTT show. 

Polling firm Gallup Korea released the results of its monthly survey for May to know the favorite broadcast video programs (excluding news) in South Korea. 

Gallup Korea conducted the survey from May 21-23 among 1,001 respondents aged 18 and above nationwide. 

The survey results showed “Queen of Tears” is the No. 1 most favorite TV, OTT program in May, getting 3.9 percent.

This is the third straight month that “Queen of Tears” ranked first in the survey. It topped the April survey with 13.1 percent and in March with 4.2 percent. 

“This is the first time that a 16-episode drama has ranked first for three consecutive months,” Gallup Korea stated. 

It added that the drama “is still captivating viewers until almost a month after the last broadcast. Very unusual.”

“Queen of Tears” aired its 16th and final episode on April 28 with 24.850 percent, surpassing “Crash Landing on You” to become the highest tvN drama in history. 

"Lovely Runner," starring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon, rose to the No. 4 spot with 2.6 percent from ninth place in April (1.3 percent).

Here are the top 20 most favorite TV, OTT shows in South Korea in May, according to Gallup Korea: 

1. Queen of Tears (tvN, drama) - 3.9% 

2.  Beauty and Mr. Romantic (KBS2, drama) - 2.8% 

3. I Live Alone (MBC, entertainment) - 2.7% 

4. Lovely Runner (tvN, drama) - 2.6% 

5. Suji & Uri (KBS1, drama) - 2.3% 

 - You Quiz on the Block (tvN, entertainment) - 2.3% 

7. Running Man (SBS, entertainment) - 2.2% 

8. Chief Detective 1958 (MBC, drama) - 2.1% 

- A Clean Sweep (JTBC, entertainment) - 2.1% 

10. My Little Old Boy (SBS, entertainment) - 2% 

11. I am a Natural Person (MBN, current affairs) - 1.9%
