Tycoon Andrew Tan’s firstborn Kevin Andrew L. Tan has been named president of their holding company Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI) following the retirement of Kingson U. Sian from leadership roles in AGI, Megaworld Corporation, and Travellers International Hotel Group (TIHGI).
Sian, 62, has been one of the first executives recruited by Tan in 1995 when he was just building his business empire through township developer Megaworld Corporation. Over his 29 years with the group, Sian had been one of the tycoon’s most trusted managers of his conglomerate and subsidiaries.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), AGI said Sian has relinquished his position as director, president, and chief operations officer (COO) of AGI following his retirement from Travellers International Hotel Group Inc. (TIHGI) June 1, 2024.
“At its special meeting conducted on June 3, 2024, the remaining (AGI) directors, while still constituting a quorum and upon the recommendation of the Corporate Governance Committee, resolved to appoint Mr. Kevin Andrew L. Tan as President of the Company to serve the unexpired term of Mr. Sian,” AGI said.
Tan, 44 years old, is the current Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of AGI. He has been with the company since 2012, and currently serves as a director in numerous subsidiaries of the company, including publicly-listed Megaworld Corporation, Emperador, Inc., Empire East Land Holdings, Inc., Global-Estate Resorts, Inc. and MREIT, Inc.
He has extensive experience in real estate, and executive management functions. Tan holds a Bachelor of Arts Major in Humanities with Professional Certificate in Management from the University of Asia and the Pacific.
In a separate disclosure, Megaworld said Sian relinquished his position as director, membership in the Executive Committee, and designation as executive director and Lourdes T. Gutierrez-Alfonso was appointed as director of the company to serve his unexpired term.
Gutierrez-Alfonso was likewise designated as member of the Executive Committee to fill in the vacancy in said committee.
Gutierrez-Alfonso, 60 years old, is the current Chief Operating Officer of the company and is a member of the company's Management Executive Committee.
She has been with the company since 1990, and currently serves as a director in numerous affiliate companies, including publicly-listed Global-Estate Resorts, Inc. and MREIT, Inc. She has extensive experience in real estate and a strong background in finance and marketing.
Meanwhile, TIHGI, owner and operator of Newport World Resorts (NWR), said Sian officially retired from the company after being at the helm since it started 16 years ago as the country’s first integrated resort developer.
Sian had initially deferred his planned retirement in 2022 to lead the company through the transition period. Also leaving their posts effective June 1, 2024 are Hakan Dagtas and Bernard Than, former Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, respectively, who were both part of AGI's former venture partner in the company.
TIHGI has appointed Nilo Thaddeus Rodriguez as President and Chief Executive Officer and Lance Gautreaux as Chief Operating Officer effective June 1, 2024.
The appointments conclude the year-long transition plan for TIHGI since AGI assumed full ownership on May 30, 2023.
Rodriguez has been with NWR since August 2022 as Chief Strategy Officer. With over 25 years of professional experience, he commenced his career with the prestigious professional services firm SGV & Co, and has substantial international experience in the travel and hospitality sector.
This includes nearly a decade in Japan in senior finance roles at Hilton, and Delta and Northwest airlines. He held the position as Chief Financial Officer of Philippine Airlines for a number of years prior to joining TIHGI.
Gautreaux joined the company in 2023, as Chief Casino Officer, with an extensive background in gaming and hospitality across multiple international jurisdictions.
He was a part of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation for over 12 years, holding key positions in multiple properties—most recently as the Chief Casino Officer of The Venetian Las Vegas.
