GSIS allots P4.3 billion in emergency loans for El Niño-affected members
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has announced an allocation of more than P4.3 billion in emergency loans to aid members and pensioners in 17 areas affected by El Niño.
In a statement, GSIS said that 185,107 active members and old-age and disability pensioners in Negros Oriental, Kabangkalan City, and Valladolid in Negros Occidental are eligible to apply for the emergency loan until June 14, 2024.
GSIS added that those in San Vicente, Palawan, have until June 15, 2024, to submit their applications, while residents in Carcar City and Compostela in Cebu and Iloilo have until June 19.
The deadline for application in Brooke’s Point in Palawan, San Agustin in Romblon, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte and Sur, Special Geographic Area), Quezon, Pangantucan in Bukidnon, and Tboli in South Cotabato is June 21, 2024.
Members and pensioners with existing emergency loan balances may borrow up to P40,000 to settle their previous loan dues and receive a maximum net amount of P20,000. Those without existing emergency loans can apply for a P20,000 loan.
To qualify for the GSIS Emergency Loan, active members must be working or residing in the calamity-declared areas, not on unpaid leave, have no pending legal cases, have made premium payments within the last six months, and have a net take-home pay of at least P5,000 as per the General Appropriations Act.
Old-age and disability pensioners living in the affected areas can also avail of the loan, provided their net monthly pension is at least 25 percent after taking the loan.
The loan comes with a low-interest rate of six percent and a repayment period of three years.
Members and pensioners can apply for the loan using the GSIS Touch mobile application, which is downloadable from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
