Bigger, broader Season 2 as PCC launches new National League format, Next Gen program

Riding the momentum from a successful first season that was culminated with a festive two-day finale at the Amoranto Sports Complex, the PCC, organized by the Collegiate Center of Esports (CCE), announced the addition of Call of Duty: Mobile to its national tournament along with staple title Mobile Legends: Bang Bang in an effort to cater to more aspiring esports professional athletes from around the country.

In the tournament road map presented during the launch, the PCC consisted of two phases – the four Regional Cups in the National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and the National League Finals to be played in Quezon City.

Collegiate teams can join the Regional Cup through an open qualifier which will be played in a single elimination format until the top eight teams are determined. The teams then play a best-of-three series with the winners advancing to the semifinals which will be played in a best-of-three double elimination format.

The champions of the Regional Cups will get a direct qualification to four of the eight available slots in the PCC National Finals while the runners-up will be seeded to the second round of the last chance qualifier of the National League.

They will then be facing the survivors of the open qualifier first round for the last remaining four spots in the Finals.

Registration for MLBB began last May 24 and will run until June 16 while the CODM registration is set on July 13 to Aug. 4 for the tournaments that are aligned to the tertiary game program by  Commission on Higher Education.

Depending on the size of the school, multiple teams from one school are allowed to participate and register for the open qualifiers.

On top of the competition, CCE has also forged partnerships with WP Gaming and Japan-based esports and marketing company Lunatone Inc for its The Next Gen program – an internship program geared towards preparing Filipino students to possible future careers in the esports industry.

“Gusto ko magkaroon ng experience ang mga bata sa professional esports para maexperience nilayung paano maging professional  which is in line with their careers. Sila naman sa WP/Gaming and Lunatone Inc.  yung  career and experience para pagdating ng araw sanay na sila,” said CCE chief executive officer who was joined by Ean Goquinco, marketing lead of WP/Gaming and Baro Hyun, founder and CEO of Lunatone Inc.

At least five lucky students will be chosen at the end of the Next Gen program and will fly to Japan for a seven-day all-expense paid trip to attend the Tokyo Game Show 2024.
