ILOILO CITY – Barangay kagawads (village councilors), barangay secretaries, and former barangay captains in this city have received cash aid via the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS), a program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Barangay kagawads and barangay secretaries received P10,000 and P5,000 each, respectively.
Raisa Treñas-Chu, the executive assistant and daughter of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, led the May 30 distribution.
The mayor’s daughter, who is reportedly running for congresswoman, was joined by her brother, city Councilor Miguel Treñas, and her cousin, Jay Treñas, another executive assistant of the mayor. Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon was also present.
Barangay kagawads and secretaries were seen wearing T-shirts with the face of Raisa during the distribution.
The following day, May 31, former barangay captains were also given P3,000 AICS each.
“Glad for the support of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Tingog party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez, Sen. Chiz Escudero, Sen. Bong Revilla, and Sen. Mark Villar in helping me and my daughter Raisa Treñas secure funds to assist our residents in crisis situations,” Mayor Treñas said in his official Facebook page.
However, this cash aid distribution was criticized by many people who wondered if the recipients were qualified to receive AICS, which was distributed by members of the mayor’s family.
A separate AICS distribution for about 800 beneficiaries was also conducted on May 31.

It was facilitated by the Office of Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “Jam Jam" Baronda, who secured the P6-million funding with the help of Romualdez.
“The monetary support will surely help our beneficiaries with their health, burial and calamity-related expenses,” Baronda said in a statement.
Baronda said that beneficiaries underwent the process to receive the cash aid.
