BACOLOD CITY – More than 100 individuals living in areas near Kanlaon Volcano in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental were evacuated on Monday night, June 3, following a phreatic eruption at around 6:51 p.m.

In a Facebook post, the city government said that as of 9:30 p.m., 22 households composed of 81 individuals have been evacuated from Barangay Pula and transferred to Macario Española Memorial School in Barangay Mabigo.
A total of 96 individuals or 21 households were also evacuated in Barangay Masulog.
Mayor Jose Chubasco "Batchuk" Cardenas ordered residents in Barangays Masulog, Pula, Malaiba, and Lumapao to go to their evacuation centers.
These four barangays are situated near Kanlaon Volcano.
Cardenas, in a message, said that the “heavy eruption” of the volcano lasted for about six minutes and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) raised the level from one to two.
He advised residents to be vigilant and prepare food, water, and utensils as the city government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are preparing food supplies for them.
Cardenas said that the provincial government is also preparing foe the possible evacuation of residents in the four barangays.
“Just stay calm for now. Don’t be afraid, and make sure to lock your houses before leaving,” he added.
Cardenas assured that the city government is doing everything to assist affected residents.
