Carla Abellana confirms divorce from Tom Rodriguez now recognized by PH court

Kapuso actress Carla Abellana has revealed that the Philippine court has recognized her divorce from actor Tom Rodriguez.

Carla confirmed this during an interview on Fast Talk With Boy Abunda on GMA Network.

"We are divorced. Recognized na po yan ng korte, ng local court natin dito.

"We haven't spoken since. Hindi pa kami nagkikita or naguusap. I have no idea kung nakikipag-date na siya. Wala po akong updates or anything because we don't communicate anymore," Carla said.

Carla, who stars in the new series "Widows' War" with Bea Alonzo, expressed no resentment towards Tom Rodriguez, her former husband.

"100 percent (wala ng galit). Ang hirap ng may bitbit na galit because life is so short. If you hold on to anger, it will just ruin you. It will manifest sa iyong health. Dala n'yo yun. I believe hindi kayo fully makakamove-on kung kay konting galit kayo na naiiwan," she added.

The boy asked Carla what she would do if she came face-to-face with Tom.

"I won't say anything. Parang wala na pong kailangan sabihin. Maybe siguro I won't even say hi! Hindi naman sa ayaw ko siyang kausapin pero as much as possible ia-avoid ko yung ganun. I prefer na hindi na lang mag-usap kahit small talk.

"At this point, hindi ko siya masyadong iniisip especially with the amount of work that we have. The little time that we have for ourselves to rest, to recover, for personal matters. Hindi siya priority," she also said.

Carla mentioned that she would simply go with the flow when it comes to having a partner.

"Ayokong i-close yung sarili ko. I don't want to sound bitter or get angry at the world. Ayoko ring hanapin or habulin. Whatever comes along the way. We'll see where it will take me," she added.

Because of the failed marriage, Carla said she has become stronger, wiser, and more contradictory, yet vulnerable.

Carla and Tom got engaged in October 2020, but their engagement was only made public in March 2021. They tied the knot at the Madre de Dios Chapel, Tagaytay Midlands in Talisay, Batangas, on Oct. 23, 2021. Then Carla and Tom called it quits. In June 2022, Tom revealed he was already divorced from Carla.

Carlas said she's very happy now following a difficult journey.

"Yes! I'm happy. It was a difficult journey to get to this point. But yes, confident na sabihin kong I'm very happy. It was a long, tedious, difficult way to get here.

"Maraming proseso at maraming dapat pagdaanan at gawin. May time na kinukwestyon ko rin yun na how did I get here? I surrendered to God. By God's grace, nadala po niya ako rito. Kung wala po si God at ang kanyang grasya, hindi ako magiging happy today," the actress said.

Asked if she had forgiven Tom, Carla said: "Definitely po. Yes!" 

But Carla said she hadn't forgotten what had happened to them. "No. It just doesn't leave your head or your heart. Yung body naaalala pa rin po kasi it wasn't so long ago."
